The new Batman film has a title (“The Dark Knight”) and a villain (Heath Ledger as The Joker).

My first choices for The Joker would have been, in order of preference:

Scary Irishman Jonathan Rhys Meyers:

or scary Englishman Paul Bettany:

I think Heath Ledger’s going to do fine, though, and am anxious to see what he does with it.

Who would you have chosen? (Ceasar Romero and Jack Nicholson are, for obvious reasons, off limits)

  • I love Heath Leger, but I just can’t see him doing this role. I wouldn’t have thought of Paul Bettany, but I think I could see that before Heath Leger. Chris Eccleston might could have done it (Dr. Who last season) — he’s kind of got that intense, creepy edge to him at times. Willem Dafoe, although he might not want to get typecast as a crazy supervillain. Or maybe Steve Buscemi? :-) In any case, I pray that Heath Leger doesn’t screw this franchise up — I’m in love with what Christian Bale and Chris Nolan have done with it and don’t want to lose that!

  • He did a fantastic job, better than any of us expected, absolutely brilliant :) loved it love him.
