LAGUNA NIGUEL, California (AP) — Al Gore’s son was arrested early Wednesday on suspicion of possessing marijuana and prescription drugs after deputies pulled him over for speeding, authorities say.

Al Gore III, 24, was driving a blue Toyota Prius about 100 mph on the San Diego Freeway when he was pulled over about 2:15 a.m., Sheriff’s Department spokesman Jim Amormino said.
The deputies said they smelled marijuana and searched the car, Amormino said.
They found less than an ounce of marijuana along with Xanax, Valium, Vicodin and Adderall, which is used for attention deficit disorder, he said.
“He does not have a prescription for any of those drugs,” Amormino said.
Gore was released from the men’s central jail in Santa Ana after posting $20,000 bail.

This has me thinking three things as I pack for a wedding in TN this morning, prying my eyes open with Red Bull as I wash some jeans and fire off some last minute, going-of-town e-mails.
The first and most obvious: Did anybody else know you could get a Toyota Prius to go 100 m.p.h.? I’m pretty sure my Subaru Outback won’t do 100 m.p.h. and it runs on, you know, gas.
The second: He was pulled over high, with a bunch of pills, in a PRIUS? It’s like the effing Onion wrote this. Also…Al Gore’s kid is my age? And he’s just now getting around to getting smoked up and giggly and going for a spin? Most of the people I know who were that way inclined were done with it near the tail end of their sophomore year of college. Of course, their parents were (mostly) not running for anything at the time.
The third: Are there any children of politicians who aren’t screwed up? Chelsea Clinton seems to have gotten through relatively unscathed — or maybe she’s just better at keeping it quiet. But the Bush daughters, at least one of Reagan’s kids, Al Gore III…and these kids don’t even get to star in Herbie: Fully Loaded.

Why is everyone surprised the Prius can do over 100 m.p.h.? It’s got a gas engine supplemented by an electric motor. It’s not like it’s a go-cart.
Maybe this will boost electric power’s testosterone rating: General Electric built the M61 Vulcan.
